Mat Hudson, who was instrumental in Oldham Athletic’s return to the Football League, has inked a new three-year contract.
After being promoted, the 26-year-old was nearing the conclusion of his current deal. He had preserved 14 clean sheets in 38 National League games the previous season.

However, manager Micky Mellon had earlier called Hudson the league’s greatest goalkeeper, so it appeared that a deal to keep him at Boundary Park would soon be reached.
Arriving from Buxton in December 2022, the former Preston North End goalkeeper started off as Magnus Norman’s backup but quickly became the team’s first choice.
“I’m really proud to be staying at Oldham,” Hudson said in reference to his new contract. I’ve loved every minute here, and this club holds a special place in my heart.
“We made great progress last season, and I want to contribute once more as we enter League Two.
“Since we’ve demonstrated our abilities and I want to help the team advance in League Two, it seemed obvious that I should sign again.
“I’m enthusiastic for what lies ahead, and we have a solid group of decent people on and off the field.
“I feel settled here and I’m just looking forward to getting back to work and helping the team however I can.”
