Wakefield Trinity boss Daryl Powell hailed his injury-hit side after they toppled reigning champions Wigan Warriors: before revealing the latest on injured captain Mike McMeeken.
Trinity were superb on Friday evening, winning 16-10 and moving into the top six despite a lengthy injury list that now includes McMeeken, who missed the game against the champions.
The England international has suffered a pectoral injury, which, while not serious, will almost likely keep him out of next week’s game against league leaders Hull KR.
Powell did, however, agree that McMeeken should be in contention to face his previous team, Catalans Dragons, in a fortnight.
Powell told BBC Radio Leeds: “He has a tear in his pec.” It’s not a big one, it’s not massive. He’ll be out for a few weeks, including next week. I don’t think he’s that far away.
Powell said that despite having so many players out injured, the ability to deliver rates among his best performances as a coach.
He stated, “It doesn’t matter who’s on the team; it still looks same. As a coach, it’s a dream come true when your squad puts up such performances.
“After a five-day turnaround, I looked at their team, and we were thin on the bench, with a centre, a back-rower, a hooker, and one middle. We were quite light, and I thought their bench was enormous, but we handled the physicality effectively from the beginning.”
