Report: The race for Sondre Ørjasaeter’s transfer is intensifying
With Dutch team PSV apparently in the lead to sign the Sarpsborg star, Celtic appears to be losing momentum in their chase of Norwegian winger Sondre Ørjasæter.
Discussions took place in the months after the Hoops were initially connected to Ørjasæter in December.
Sarpsborg, however, has maintained their assessment and the Hoops never reached an agreement with them. According to TV Sport 2 in Norway, it may now require a proposal over £11 million to entice him away from the Eliteserien team, while the original sum was estimated to be around £7 million.
After a stellar 2023 season in which he scored six goals and appeared in every league game for Sarpsborg, the 21-year-old has gained attention. He also had many appearances for Norway’s Under-21 team.
Despite losing time due to a thigh injury, he has contributed with a goal and three assists in seven games this season. He is now completely fit.
The winger’s popularity has rapidly increased. PSV is reportedly at the forefront of the pursuit after making a determined effort to sign him.

According to reports, Ørjasæter is amenable to a move to the Netherlands, where the Eredivisie is thought to be a league that would fit his style of play. Lille, a French team, is keeping an eye on the situation as well.
Despite their obvious desire, Celtic may now have to make a difficult choice. Brendan Rodgers will have to choose between meeting the valuation and pursuing alternative goals as Sarpsborg’s asking price rises and PSV continues to gain ground.
The winger is the type of player Celtic is looking for in the wide areas, but the window for a trade may be closing quickly as competition heats up.
