Donaghy wants to push for Latics number one spot after committing to club

Tom Donaghy has been retained by Oldham Athletic, adding to their goalkeeping roster.

The 22-year-old, who impressed since joining from Fleetwood in February, has signed a two-year contract. It’s a double keeper boost for Latics, who have signed Mat Hudson on a contract until 2028.

Donahy made ten appearances for the Latics last season while Hudson was recovering from a broken finger. However, he argues that he has not committed his future to Oldham just for financial reasons.

“I want to push as much as I can to play as many games as possible,” stated the Leeds-born goalkeeper.

“Mat is an excellent goalie, but healthy competition will only benefit us both. “I’m incredibly proud to be staying in Oldham. Since I arrived in February, I’ve felt a strong connection to the club.

“The environment here is excellent, there’s great staff, great players and I want to keep improving and help the team wherever I can.” Scott Davies, goalkeeping coach, added: “Tom joined in mid-season and quickly impressed. He trains hard, learns rapidly, and incorporates healthy competition into his goals.

“We are thrilled that he has dedicated his future to us. “His attitude is excellent, he’s willing to learn and train hard on a daily basis, they’re the characters we want in the group, so we’re delighted to bring Tom back.”
