Coventry City should join race for attacker Eddie Howe says ‘can do everything

Coventry City are looking to go one better in next season’s Championship under Frank Lampard and win promotion

Coventry City is attempting to make the jump from the play-offs to promotion after missing out on the end-of-season lottery in two of the previous three seasons.

To do so, the Sky Blues will need an extra sprinkling of quality in the summer transfer window, and Bournemouth could be poised to offer Championship clubs the opportunity to sign a second-tier cheat code.

David Brooks’ apparent availability will drive Championship teams into a transfer frenzy.
Brooks, now 27, has relaunched his career in the last two years after beating Hodgkin’s disease, helping Bournemouth to their best Premier League points total last season.
However, he only started nine Premier League games for the Cherries, scoring twice, and reports suggest he may be on his way to the Championship again.

Brooks helped Southampton return to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs just a year ago, scoring twice and assisting six times in 20 appearances.

Brooks has only 12 months left on his contract at Bournemouth, and the club will want to recoup as much of the £11.5 million they paid to sign him from Sheffield United seven years ago as possible.

West Bromwich Albion are the first team to be linked with Brooks, but interest is expected to grow in the coming weeks.

Everything indicates that Brooks would be a terrific fit for the Sky Blues under Frank Lampard.

Brooks, a left-footed right-winger who tends to drift inside, fits well into Lampard’s favored 4-2-3-1 formation.

Last season, Japanese ace Tatsuhiro Sakamoto had little competition for that spot, whereas Lampard had Haji Wright, Ephron Mason-Clark, and the now-departed Jamie Paterson vying for it.

Sakamoto, who scored four goals and six assists in 44 Championship games last season, would benefit from strong competition for his spot.

Eddie Howe, who coached Brooks at Bournemouth, summed him up. According to him: “He is a player that can do a little bit of everything, he is very good offensively, is creative, turns well with the ball and is very intelligent.”

Coventry need players like Brooks to take them to the next level in the Championship.

Brooks has the potential to be a game changer on his day, which is rare in a league where practically everyone will be hoping to make the Premier League when the season begins in August.
