Although he stated that he was not shocked to see Jimmy Dunne sign a new deal with QPR, pundit Lee Hendrie asserted that the defender may yet depart Loftus Road soon due to intense Championship interest.
Despite QPR‘s lacklustre season last season—the West London team ultimately finished in 15th place after threatening relegation—Dunne had another strong season on an individual basis and was chosen as the team’s Player of the Year by both fans and teammates.
In the January transfer window, Sheffield United showed interest in Dunne, as FLW exclusively reported. Later, Blades manager Chris Wilder acknowledged that the club’s “reasonably good bid” was turned down by the R’s.
Before leaving on Wednesday, it was said that Wilder was still interested in bringing Dunne to Bramall Lane this summer. However, this week, the 27-year-old put an end to rumours about his future by signing a new contract with the Hoops, saying that Loftus Road “feels like home” and that his “emotional attachment” to the team persuaded him to stay.
Christian Nourry, the CEO of QPR, stated that Dunne “had the pick of the Championship clubs in this window” but chose to stay with the team because of “what we are all building together” when the news of his contract extension was made public.

Hendrie stated in an exclusive interview with Football League World that Dunne’s choice to commit to QPR for the future is the best course of action for all involved. However, he acknowledged that he would not be shocked to see him leave Loftus Road in the near future due to the high level of Championship interest in his services.
“Jimmy Dunne had the pick of clubs he could have gone to,” Hendrie stated.
Does the fact that he stayed surprise me? No, not at all.
But I wouldn’t be shocked if he continued to leave the football team following his previous season.
He is a really good football player who can even score goals based on his style of play.
“You do believe that Dunne’s signing a new deal benefits both sides, but you cannot completely rule out the possibility that he may still depart the football team.
“He had a great season last season, and you can understand why so many top sides in the Championship would love to take him.”
