Goodman recommended that Jones stick with current number one Will Mannion in the Championship next season, and that if Charlton did make a bid for Fabianski, the former Poland international should only be used as a backup.

“Lukasz Fabianski to Charlton would be an interesting move,” according to Goodman.
“Fabianski turned 40 in April, but goalkeepers have already proven to be durable. Do they need a goalkeeper? Isn’t it debatable? “Will Mannion did exceptionally well at the end of the season. He kept clean sheets in all three play-off games, and if you consider the season’s final few games, he kept clean sheets in four of the last five.
“Having started 28 games and maintained 12 clean sheets is a fairly excellent ratio, so it would be a bit unfair to move him out of the way.
“However, Fabianski could help to bring Mannion and the other goalkeepers at Charlton on, and that could possibly be the reason for signing him, rather than for him to be playing week in, week out.”

Nathan Jones was right to pass down Lukasz Fabianski’s Charlton Athletic opportunity.
Fabianski has been a reliable goalkeeper in the Premier League for most of his career, so Jones would have been tempted to bring him to Charlton.
Both Mannion and Maynard-Brewer had time between the sticks last season, implying Jones may not be completely convinced by the two, and it would not be surprising if he signs a new goalkeeper for the Championship.
However, Fabianski is already 40 years old and would not be a long-term deal for the Addicks. As Goodman points out, Fabianski might theoretically transmit on his wisdom to Mannion and Maynard-Brewer, but they are already accomplished players at 27 and 25, respectively.
So Jones was correct to turn down the opportunity to sign the ex-West Ham player, especially as he would certainly require a big salary to go to The Valley.
