Following the Salford transfer drama, Paul Rowley attacks Hunslet’s “grossly inaccurate” claims.

Paul Rowley, the manager of Salford, has called Hunslet’s disparaging remarks on the Red Devils’ acquisition of Kobe Rugless “grossly inaccurate,” claiming he has given the Championship team proof to support his claims.

Salford, a Super League team, revealed earlier this week that utility Rugless would be joining them on a two-week initial loan from Hunslet.

After the Parksiders were promoted last season, Rugless, whose father Troy played for the London Broncos in the early 1990s, has been wearing a shirt in the Championship since the start of this season.

His transfer to the Super League was unexpected, and shortly after it was made public, Hunslet released a statement accusing Salford of signing him against their will. The RFL was also criticised for their involvement in the transfer in the same statement.

Rugless made his Red Devils debut on Sunday when they lost to Hull FC 38–6 at home. Rowley’s team is scheduled to play in the Super League next week when they travel St Helens.

When questioned about Hunslet’s statement after Sunday’s game, Rowley stood up for Salford and the RFL, saying.

“I’ll show you the messages, I think whomever has written it (the statement) is anonymous! That remark and the chat I had with their coach are quite different, and I believe they now know it is blatantly false, but it would be awkward to take it back.

“We were contacted twice on the player, and we called the Hunslet coach first.

“To be honest, I didn’t know the player, but we had a great talk. We received it from the agent and the player.

“The remarks were quite disheartening. What’s more disheartening is that they haven’t felt the need to correct that when I’ve shown them the real circumstances, or perhaps they find it too embarrassing.

In order to achieve “a fair and appropriate outcome,” Hunslet has maintained that any long-term agreement for Rugless to stay with the Red Devils must still be reached. Rowley went on:

“They can’t be upset with us because we couldn’t have done more or been more forthright and honest (with them).” We went above and above, and I don’t think we could have done anything more. Definitely not us. We don’t care who they want to be upset with.

We took great care to treat them with the respect they deserve because they are a great club with wonderful people. “I only hope that our relationship between clubs continues as it has and always should.”
