Leeds Hold Firm on Mateo Joseph Price Tag as Real Betis Explore Alternatives
Leeds United are standing by their valuation of young striker Mateo Joseph, creating an obstacle for Real Betis in their ongoing pursuit of the forward. Despite sustained interest from the Spanish club, they are now reportedly turning attention to other potential targets amid stalled negotiations.
Transfer Stalemate as Betis Hesitate Over Asking Price
Spanish outlet Diario de Sevilla reports that Betis are struggling to match Leeds’ financial expectations. The La Liga side are prepared to offer around €8m (£6.8m), but Leeds are holding out for more than €10m (£8.6m) to even consider parting ways with the 21-year-old. Leeds have made it clear that Joseph is not on the market unless a significant offer is tabled.
Real Betis previously made a £10m approach in January, which Leeds rejected. Since then, Joseph has found first-team opportunities limited, with Joel Piroe leading the line and winning the Championship Golden Boot for the 2024/25 season. With talks at a standstill, Betis are now weighing up other options, including Wolves’ Fabio Silva—though he may command an even higher fee.

Joseph Seeks More Playing Time but Remains Focused
While speculation swirls around his future, Joseph recently represented Spain at the Under-21 European Championships, scoring once in three appearances before Spain’s quarter-final exit to England. Speaking to Spanish publication AS, he acknowledged his limited role at Leeds and expressed a desire for greater involvement moving forward.
“I want to be more involved in the final stretch of the season,” Joseph said. “I need more participation to continue developing as a player. I’ll have to talk with Leeds—nothing has been decided yet, but I want more minutes to grow.”
The striker, who remains under contract at Elland Road until 2028, emphasized that he is currently focused on his development and will consider his options once discussions with the club take place.
