Exclusive: What Don Goodman has said about Charlton Athletic and QPR’s interest in Peterborough United transfer deal

Exclusive: What Don Goodman has said about Charlton Athletic and QPR’s interest in Peterborough United transfer deal.

Don Goodman, a Sky Sports pundit and EFL specialist, believes either Charlton Athletic or QPR will recruit Peterborough United’s Malik Mothersille this summer.

According to Football League World, Charlton and QPR are both interested in signing Mothersille, who had a successful League One season at Peterborough in 2024/25.

The Chelsea academy product was an ever-present for Darren Ferguson’s side as they ended 18th in the third division, with an outstanding 16 goals and 10 assists from 57 games across all competitions, 12 of which came in league play.

Competition Appearances Goals Assists
League One 45 12 9
EFL Trophy 8 4 1
FA Cup 3 0 0
EFL Cup 1 0 0
Total 57 16 10

Mothersille, 21, has only a year left on his present deal, and Peterborough will be wary of losing him for a low fee this time next year.

While clubs are entitled to fairly generous compensation figures when a player aged 24 or under joins another domestic side at the end of his contract, compensation is minimal when an agreement is reached with a foreign team, and Posh were left disappointed when Ricky-Jade Jones turned down a number of Championship clubs to sign with Bundesliga outfit St Pauli, a situation that could also play out with coveted winger Kwame Poku.

Peterborough may be under pressure to sanction a deal while a fee for Mothersille can be negotiated on their terms, if any potential attempt to tie the versatile attacker down to new terms fails.

Don Goodman backs Charlton Athletic or QPR to sign Peterborough’s Malik Mothersille

Speaking exclusively to FLW, Goodman explained how he believes Mothersille had a “brilliant season” despite Peterborough’s troubles, which might reward him a promotion to the Championship.

Mothersille, according to the commentator, is the type of signing that would suit clubs like Charlton and QPR, which lack the financial strength of some of their second-tier counterparts and must instead attract lower-league quality at a reduced price.

“It is quite difficult to say with certainty that a player from one level will be able to advance to the next league. You only discover out when something happens. “Some players can; some cannot. “But there’s no doubt that Malik Mothersille had an outstanding season in what was an extraordinarily difficult season for Peterborough United.

They continued their tradition of being a goalscoring club that scores a lot yet allows a lot of goals other end.

“Mothersille’s 12 goals and nine assists (in the league) highlight his remarkable season on a struggling side. He’s only 21 years old, so he still has a lot of room for growth. “So, if you are a QPR or a Charlton, I believe you would be signing a player that you can definitely use.

Charlton Athletic will know all about Peterborough’s Malik Mothersille amid QPR competition

Charlton, in particular, will be familiar with Mothersille, having won promotion through the League One play-offs under Nathan Jones last season after finishing fourth. Mothersille caught the attention for Posh on numerous occasions, but one of his most memorable performances came in their stunning 3-0 victory over Charlton in March, when he assisted teammate Abraham Odoh before scoring in the second half.

The Addicks have already seen firsthand what he is capable of, and you would think that more than a few of the Charlton players who faced Mothersille that afternoon would prefer to have him as a colleague next season rather than an opponent once more, this time at QPR or any other Championship club.
