Gustaf Lagerbielke gets emotional as Celtic future hangs in the balance

Gustaf Lagerbielke gets emotional as Celtic future hangs in the balance.

Celtic have a handful of players returning from loan this summer. Brendan Rodgers loaned out Gustaf Lagerbielke, Stephen Welsh, and Luis Palma after determining that they were surplus to Celtic’s first-team requirements.

Lagerbielke left Celtic for FC Twente last summer, having made only 10 appearances since joining Parkhead from Elfsborg in the summer of 2023.

But now, as the Celtic defender prepares to return to Paradise, Lagerbielke became upset as he said goodbye to the FC Twente fans.

Twente v PSV Eindhoven - Eredivisie 2024/2025

Lagerbielke evidently liked his season at FC Twente, having made 32 appearances, 19 of which he played the full 90 minutes.

And as he returned to Celtic, the defender became emotional as he sent a message to the Eredivisie club’s supporters.

Lagerbielke wrote on Instagram, “Tukkers, I felt at home from the first day I arrived in Enschede. “Every time I drove to the training area in Hengelo, I felt excited. “Every day I was with the squad and the personnel, I felt happy. “Every day I wore the Twente shirt, I felt pleased. “Every day I played in front of you fans, I felt honoured.

“And today, I am grateful. I am grateful for each of you and for allowing me to be a part of your family.

“Bedankt [Thanks].”

What’s been said about Gustaf Lagerbielke’s Celtic future

Now that Lagerbielke is returning to Celtic, there are numerous opinions on where his future lays. Arnold Bruggink, FC Twente’s technical director, stated about the Celtic defender, “Lagerbielke will most likely return (to Celtic). That’s how things appear to be right now.

“We need two core defenders, one of whom, in my opinion, must be a true leader. The profile you’re looking at is for Robin Pröpper. “You need a leader from the back, which will give you a lot more stability.”

Lagerbielke himself stated on his Celtic future, “I’ve learnt from being outside. You do not have as much say in everything. I just concentrate on the next game, even if it sounds cliché. “Then the negotiators will have to work it out.

If I have anything to say about it, I’ll share my thoughts later. “There are big forces at work, so I have to focus on football.” Well, it appears that those ‘great forces’ are leading Lagerbielke back to Celtic, and where he goes from there is unknown.
