According to i News, Newcastle United is in the lead to sign Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro, but they are unwilling to pay the Seagulls’ £60 million asking price.
Even though Eddie Howe had discussions with the club’s management about making swift transactions immediately following the season’s conclusion, the Magpies have not made any big transfers in the summer transfer window.
Howe wants to add another attacker this summer because Alexander Isak has been carrying a large portion of the goal-scoring load.
Brighton’s Pedro is on their radar since Newcastle has been turned off by the fees involved and Bryan Mbeumo still seems set to be heading to Manchester United.
Chelsea has also shown interest in Pedro, while Liverpool is another team that likes the Brazilian.

Crucially, Newcastle now has the upper hand in the transfer race and has been in negotiations regarding a deal.
The Magpies’ problem is that they refuse to pay Brighton’s asking price of £60 million.
Along with another centre-back and a goalkeeper—a deal for James Trafford is reportedly in the works—Newcastle may also require a winger.

In order to deliver for Howe before the upcoming season, the team must keep a careful eye on their finances as they attempt to cover the squad’s gaps.
Newcastle is eager to ensure that they have the depth in their squad to handle the competition and the demands of the Premier League now that Champions League football is back at St. James’ Park.
Given the amount of interest in Pedro, it’s uncertain if Brighton will be willing to make a concession on his asking price.
