Prior to their Super League matchup with the Wigan Warriors on Saturday, the Castleford Tigers have officially announced the acquisition of Joe Stimson, a former NRL Grand Finalist.
The 29-year-old has committed to the Tigers through the conclusion of the 2026 season at the latest.
Throughout his career, Stimson has played for the Gold Coast Titans, Canterbury Bulldogs, and Melbourne Storm, making 115 NRL matches.
The Australian, who played for Melbourne in their 2018 Grand Final loss to the Sydney Roosters, will bring a wealth of experience to Castleford’s squad.
Tigers coach Danny McGuire stated, “I’m really looking forward to Joe getting started with us.”
“He is an excellent player who has played in some very competitive settings, and I can’t wait to watch him bring that experience and drive to Castleford.”
Stimson is the nephew of former Balmain Tigers and Wests Tigers great Mark Stimson and the son of former South Sydney Rabbitohs player Peter Stimson.
Chris Chester, Castleford’s rugby director, thinks Stimson will strengthen their forward group.
“I’m thrilled to have completed Joe’s signing,” Chester remarked. He contributes a great deal of NRL experience to the team and is a diligent middle who can play on an edge.
Wigan will want to go back to winning ways on Saturday night when they play Castleford at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
Although the defending champions are now four points behind table toppers Hull KR, McGuire’s team is presently tenth in the standings, while Wigan is still in second place despite losing at Wakefield Trinity last week.
