Experienced central midfielder Alex Mowatt was one of West Bromwich Albion’s best players during the 2024–25 season and drew attention in the middle of the park.
The 30-year-old maestro helped the Baggies with two assists, five “big chances” produced, and seven goals in 39 Championship games.

A TEAMtalk reporter claims that as Ryan Mason attempts to bolster his team, a number of teams are interested in a move to recruit Sheffield Wednesday star Barry Bannan, including West Bromwich Albion.
According to the writer, Stoke City and Wrexham, two Championship teams that were promoted from League One, are also interested in signing the Scottish maestro to strengthen their own midfield lineups.
The veteran midfielder will be available on a free move when Bannan’s contract with the Owls expires at the end of this month.
Along with Stoke and Wrexham, West Brom appears to be in the running to sign him on a free transfer; if they win, they might replicate their Mowatt masterpiece.
Why Barry Bannan should be signed by West Brom
Having made 374 games in the second level during his career, Bannan would be among the most seasoned players in the division when he joined The Hawthorns.
The 35-year-old great, who colleague Josh Windass called a “incredible” character, has shown himself in the Championship and may be just as successful in the Midlands as Mowatt was.
Because he can produce goals and assists from the middle of the park, Bannan is another midfield player who may offer attributes comparable to Mowatt at the top end of the field.
After managing 28 assists over the previous three seasons combined, the Scottish veteran finished the 2024–25 season with four goals and five assists in the Championship.
