After leaving Millwall to join League One team Blackpool, midfielder George Honeyman sent an emotional parting message to Millwall fans.
In the summer of 2022, Honeyman moved from Hull City to Millwall, where he played regularly for the next three years under a number of different managers, including Joe Edwards, Neil Harris, Alex Neil, and Gary Rowett.
The 30-year-old finished seventh in the standings after a good second half of the season following Neil’s arrival in December, scoring two goals and dishing out six assists in 45 appearances across all competitions last season as the Lions just lost out on Championship play-off spots.
Honeyman had been in negotiations with Millwall over a potential new contract, but he chose to leave The Den in order to join Blackpool, and FLW exclusively reported earlier this month that the Seasiders were interested in the midfield player.
Honeyman acknowledged receiving offers from other teams after agreeing to a two-year deal at Bloomfield Road, but he claimed that the belief Tangerines manager Steve Bruce, with whom he had previously worked at Sunderland, had in him helped persuade him to move to Lancashire.
George Honeyman, who traded Millwall for Blackpool, talks out

Honeyman wrote a heartfelt farewell letter to Lions supporters after his departure from Millwall was officially announced. He insisted that the team would have great success in the future with the current leadership and team, and he said that the atmosphere at The Den is among the best he
has ever experienced in his career. In a post on the club’s official X account, Honeyman wrote, “First of all, I’d like to say these past three years have been a life-changing experience and how you’ve made my wife and I feel at home from day one – I’d like to thank you.”
Since I’ve been here, we’ve experienced a lot, including the awful deaths of John Berylson and Matija Sarkic.
I will always cherish the love that Millwall has for its players, staff, and supporters. “With a wonderful chairman, staff, and players, the club is in excellent hands and will undoubtedly provide you with many more wonderful experiences like the ones we’ve shared.
“To the guys in the dressing room, never lose your spirit no matter what. You have something great there.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the fans for providing me with some of the most amazing environments I have ever experienced. It’s a very unique place to have fun.
“Never forget how important it is to have that famous Millwall roar.”
Following Blackpool’s departure, Millwall fans will appreciate George Honeyman’s contribution.

Over the past three years, Honeyman has been a great asset to Millwall, contributing a creative spark and an unwavering work ethic to the club. The midfielder will be remembered for his performances at The Den, even if he was unable to help the Lions qualify for the Premier League.
He was a member of the teams that painfully missed the play-offs in the closing days of the 2022–2023 and 2024–2025 seasons.
Supporters of Millwall may be a little worried that Honeyman has also chosen to drop to League One rather than sign a new contract after George Saville declined the opportunity to stay at the club in order to join Luton Town, but it’s possible that the two were not given the required assurances of regular playing time next season.
