Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin delivers summer transfer window assessment.

Aberdeen manager Thelin has already signed four new players, with more to follow as he prepares the squad for European group stage action.
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin feels he enters the summer transfer window in a better position than last year. Thelin’s third transfer window as Aberdeen manager commenced on Monday and will end on September
1. Four players have already signed pre-contracts before the market began, as Thelin looks to build on the enthusiasm of its first Scottish Cup success since 1990.
Australian internationals Kusini Yengi (Portsmouth), Emmanuel Gyamfi (FC Schalke 04), Nicolas Milanovic (Western Sydney Wanderers), and Nick Suman (Cove Rangers) have all signed permanent contracts.
Thelin is in advanced talks with more transfer targets as he looks to bolster his team for European group stage action. The Dons will begin their continental campaign in the Europa League play-off on Thursday, August 21.
Last summer, Thelin made six permanent signings and one loan addition, Millwall striker Kevin Nisbet.
Thelin’s transfer window additions
In January, his second window, the Reds manager added three more permanent acquisitions and three loan deals. The Reds’ manager prefers to plan two seasons ahead and claims he is starting the summer from a “higher” position.
Thelin will look to sign players after winning the Scottish Cup, receiving a £5 million Uefa Euro prize, and working with his recruitment team for a year to find targets.
And the Swede believes he would not “force” any deals, only signing players who can help Aberdeen. He stated, “We are now in my second season and have already built things up a little bit. “So we can start looking forward to next season with a bigger net worth, which is beneficial to us. “Everyone in the recruitment department is working extremely hard, but the additions must be the right players. “When it is the right one, we will attempt, but we will not force it.
“We are going to grow step by step.”
Aberdeen resumed to pre-season this week after a well-deserved summer holiday following their Scottish Cup final victory.
Importance of pre-season training
Thelin and his Dons squad will go to the Algarve tomorrow for a 10-day warm-weather training camp. The temperature is expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius during their stay in Portugal.
Aberdeen trained at the same location last summer and started the season with a 16-game unbeaten streak across all competitions.
Following the training, the Reds will play friendlies against Cove Rangers away (Saturday, July 12) and English Championship side Ipswich Town at Pittodrie on Friday, July 25.
The Dons are also in advanced discussions for a friendly on Saturday, July 19. Thelin believes that pre-season is critical to the effort to develop for success because the games will come thick and quick in the new season.
Aberdeen are guaranteed Euro group play until at least late December, but will have to juggle midweek European games with domestic responsibilities. He stated: “Pre-season is extremely crucial because you don’t have much time to train when the games are approaching quickly.
“It is about small adjustments.
“In Sweden we had a longer pre-season so here we have to be more direct and more quick to get the ideas across to the players for the new campaign.” This summer was Thelin’s first true break in over 18 months.
Pittodrie return after summer break
He arrived to Pittodrie in mid-June of last year, despite having been officially appointed as Dons manager two months earlier.
Thelin stayed at Elfsborg for two months after his move to Pittodrie was finalised, until the Swedish top flight went on summer break.
He stated, “This is my longest summer vacation in 15 years, which is very great.
“Normally, the break occurred in November, when the children are in school.
