Pittodrie manager Jimmy Thelin is looking for more attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.

Aberdeen are allegedly in a three-way competition to capture Degerfors winger Elias Pihlstrom. Despite signing Australia international Kusini Yengi on a free transfer from Portsmouth, the Swede is looking to add additional attacking options after loan players Kevin Nisbet and Odday Dabbagh left for Millwall and Charleroi, respectively.

According to sources in his home country, they are currently competing for the services of teen Pihlstrom.

Boss Jimmy Thelin has reinforced his squad with four new recruits this summer, but more are likely as the Dons prepare for a European campaign that will go at least until Christmas. According to Swedish outlets Kt-Kuriren and FotbollDirekt, the Pittodrie club is one of three clubs interested in signing the 18-year-old.

Pihlstrom made his senior debut for Swedish top-flight club Degerfors last year and has impressed this season, scoring three goals in 14 games across all competitions. The left-side player has six U19 caps for his country and has scored once in those games. According to the article, Aberdeen will face competition from Eredivisie duo PEC Zwolle and FC Utrecht to sign youngster.

They also speculate that Degerfors may be in position to receive a club record transfer fee for the player, having previously transferred forward Victor Edvardsen to league rivals Djurgarden for about €700,000 (£597,000) during the 2021-22 season.

If the Dons bring Pihlstrom to the Granite City, it would not be the first time that manager Thelin has returned to his former hunting grounds in Sweden, where he previously managed Jonkopings and Elfsborg, for reinforcements.

Last January, Thelin bought Danish full defender Alexander Jensen from Brommapojkarna at £600,000.

Aberdeen signed his old Elfsborg midfield general, Sivert Heltne Nilsen, from Norwegian club Brann last summer, and the veteran went on to make 32 appearances before suffering a major eye injury that sidelined him for the final three months of the season.
