Coventry City’s fixture chosen for TV and when Sky Sports must confirm selections.

Coventry City will be on the box for the first weekend of the new Champions League season, and Sky Sports will continue to provide picks throughout the season.

Coventry City’s new Championship campaign will begin with a visit from Hull City to the CBS. Arena for a televised 12:30pm kickoff on Saturday, August 9th – but the season as a whole begins on Friday night with Birmingham City hosting Ipswich Town in front of live TV cameras at St Andrew’s.

Birmingham, promoted from League One, will face Ipswich, relegated from the Premier League, on Sky Sports on August 8, the first of six games rescheduled for transmission on the inaugural weekend.

The three relegated teams from the first tier, plus Birmingham and Wrexham, have been chosen, together with Charlton, who has also been promoted. Southampton v Wrexham, Charlton v Watford, and Sky Blues v Hull all take off at 12.30pm the next day, while Sheffield United against Bristol City, a rematch of last season’s play-off semi-final, kicks off at 5.30pm. Leicester v Sheffield Wednesday kicks off at 4.30pm on Sunday, August 10.

The remaining half-dozen games, all of which begin at the traditional 3pm slot on Saturday, will also be televised; there is still a TV blackout rule that prevents matches from being broadcast live between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on Saturdays, except in the case – as on opening weekend – when less than half of the top two divisions’ (Premier League and Championship) matches are played at the same time. Sky’s picks for fixtures until the end of September will be confirmed by July 3. All picks up to January 10 will be announced on July 31.

Selections for matches scheduled after the first weekend of March will be revealed on a four-week rolling basis beginning on February 1.

Selections for matches slated for the penultimate weekend of the regular season will be made three weeks ahead. Matches for the final weekend of the regular season will be revealed the week before.
