Hamza Igamane and new age Rangers way of scouting brought in by Nils Koppen that will trigger transfer millions.

Nils Koppen will formally quit Rangers next week, just as his efforts appear to be yielding results. Lille have expressed a great interest in Hamza Igamane and are set to make a significant bid.

The Ligue 1 team has held negotiations with the striker’s agency, but there appears to be a strong desire to move forward. There has already been talk of an incoming proposal in excess of £10 million. If that happens, the new Rangers owners will have to make a decision, and the money might also go a long way towards supporting Russell Martin’s revolution by bringing in significant players.

If the bidding starts at eight figures, Rangers will earn a significant profit on the £1.5 million they paid AS FAR in July. The outgoing technical director put Igamane on the Ibrox radar. Koppen joined the club and helped it transition from more traditional scouting to more data-driven. That helped them identify Igamane, one of Morocco’s top young players.

He was already on the Olympic team. Koppen and his team completed their homework, and he had contacts in Morocco, all of which helped Igamane join Rangers despite increased interest from European clubs in higher levels.

Koppen and his colleagues sold Igamane on a move to Rangers as a stepping stone to even better things, which now appears to be right on time.

The 22-year-old arrived injured and required some time to adjust, but his physicality and undeniable skill have demonstrated that there is still room for improvement and promise. In his first season overseas, he scored 16 goals and assisted five times for a Rangers squad that was far from steady. Igamane resembles a rough diamond that can be polished into a jewel.

He could well be Koppen’s crowning achievement. If Igamane succeeds, the Belgian deserves credit. He has been used as a scapegoat for far too long.

He has been the main reason for Rangers’ failure on the pitch, with former caretaker Barry Ferguson and all of the old Ibrox talking heads condemning his job.

He is an easy target, but Koppen had to do a lot more behind the scenes due to a lack of essential personnel at Ibrox. People discuss his recruiting, although there have been achievements. Vaclav Cerny made an impression at Ibrox thanks to the Belgian, whom he had watched in Holland. Yes, critics will bring up names like Robin Propper and Nedim Bajrami.

Propper was a solid player for FC Twente, whereas Bajrami was an Albanian international who had played a lot of football in Italy.

They appeared to be low-risk signings, but neither has reached the heights that Rangers fans had hoped for or expected.

However, Propper is desired by Twente, and if Russell Martin tells him he is surplus to needs, Rangers will be able to recoup their investment.

There is still value in Bajrami, and there may yet be a player there. The cash-strapped Ibrox club plainly changed their plan last summer to reduce the salary bill and bring in younger players, such as Igamane, who could be developed and sold on. Jefte, Connor Barron, and Clinton Nsiala all arrived.

They’ve all shown flashes of brilliance at times, but they’re still young and have experienced ups and downs.

All three are likely to generate revenue for the Rangers in the long run.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo also came in on loan, but his stay was cut short by injury, and Rafael Fernandes came in to replace him, but he barely kicked a ball.
