Leeds open talks to sign Douglas Luiz as Juventus set price well within 49ers’ reach – report.

Leeds United are said to have begun talks with Juventus about signing Douglas Luiz – and while the Italians’ low fee for the Brazil international gives the Whites hope, they will face competition and have been warned of a “issue” in the player’s game.
The Whites are trying to strengthen their squad with a number of quality additions in order to better prepare for their return to the Premier League. And, with the past six sides promoted to the top tier all experiencing an immediate return, Leeds United knows they will have their job cut out to finish 17th or higher next season.
Nonetheless, Daniel Farke and athletic director Adam Underwood have started the summer window with a clear aim. To reinforce the attacking line, Lukas Nmecha has signed on a free transfer, while imposing Slovenian defender Jaka Bijol has joined from Udinese for £15 million.
Farke, on the other hand, recognises the need for numerous critical reinforcements and intends to bring in a new goalkeeper, left-back, striker, and No.10.
The Whites manager would also like to add another quality midfielder, and while compromises will be made to get as many of his primary targets as possible, Leeds will only invest if particular targets are within their budget.
To that goal, the reported interest in Douglas Luiz seemed ambitious. The 18-times capped Brazilian midfielder joined Juventus last summer for roughly £42 million (€50 million, $57.5 million). However, the 27-year-old has failed to live up to his expectations in Italy, and after only three starts in Serie A and zero goals or assists, the Bianconeri are now willing to sell the star for a reduced price. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, they are looking for a modest €25 million (£21.3 million, $29.2 million) for the former Aston Villa player, which is half of their investment from last season. And, after being linked with a move earlier this summer, Football Insider now says that Leeds have ‘started talks’ to sign Luiz.
With Juventus reportedly ‘trying to force Luiz out’, Leeds could have an opportunity to sign a quality and proven Premier League performer for a low amount.
However, his reputed annual pay of €5 million (£4.3 million) – or almost £82,000 per week – would be an issue for the Whites unless they can persuade the player to accept a large compensation cut.
Leeds told Douglas Luiz problem as Prem rivals also target deal

Amid Juve’s desire to offload the player, the midfielder has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, who have reportedly offered the star as part of a straight swap for Jadon Sancho, while talks were held about a possible loan return to Manchester City back in January as Pep Guardiola’s side look to navigate their way through the near-season-long absence of the influential Rodri.
According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest is the most likely threat to Leeds’ apparent interest in Luiz, as Nuno’s team prepares for a return to European competition in the UEFA Conference League and seeks more quality and experience for their roster.
Speaking to the publication, former Manchester United scout Mick Brown believes there is a very obvious reason why Juve want to transfer the youngster on. “Juventus want to get rid of Douglas Luiz,” the Uruguayan player stated.
“He hasn’t made an impact there since leaving Villa, and from what I’ve heard, his agency has been communicating with a number of Premier League clubs to find him a new club. “Luiz is an excellent passer of the ball and a talented player.
