Mbeumo Chooses Manchester United Over Tottenham, Decision Relayed to Clubs
Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo has reportedly made his preference clear amid ongoing transfer speculation, notifying both his current club and Tottenham Hotspur that he intends to join Manchester United if a deal can be agreed.
The 24-year-old forward had been at the centre of a two-way transfer battle between United and Spurs, following a standout Premier League season in which he netted 20 goals. Though United emerged as early frontrunners, Spurs’ appointment of Thomas Frank – Mbeumo’s former manager at Brentford – added an interesting twist to the narrative.

Decision Confirmed Despite Thomas Frank Link
Despite speculation of a potential U-turn and suggestions that Mbeumo could favour a reunion with Frank, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein reports that the Cameroon international has communicated his decision: he wants to move to Manchester United.
According to the report, Mbeumo has now informed both Brentford and Tottenham of his intentions. The move is now dependent on Brentford and United reaching a transfer agreement, with the latest United bid of £62.5million having been rejected.
While Spurs had been a serious contender due to the Frank connection, their interest appears to have cooled in light of Mbeumo’s stance. Reports suggest Tottenham are no longer actively pursuing the player, and are unlikely to return to the table unless Manchester United fail to finalise the deal.

Trust Rebuffed as Frank Misses Out
The reported decision deals a blow to Spurs manager Thomas Frank, who had hoped to reunite with one of his most trusted former players. Frank worked closely with Mbeumo at Brentford and was expected to rely on familiar personnel to help mould his new Tottenham side.
Former Spurs forward Robbie Keane recently stated that Frank would likely prioritise players he already trusts when shaping his squad. He namechecked Mbeumo as an ideal candidate, praising the winger’s productivity and ability to adapt.
“All eyes will be on the transfer window now,” Keane said. “When a manager comes in, he always wants to bring his own people in. Whether that’s Brentford players or not, I’m not sure, but he certainly knows he can trust his former players.
“Bryan Mbeumo is one who I think could come and fit in well. He’s had a good season, scored some goals and got some assists, and now has teams like Man Utd looking at him. I’d expect him to do very well at Spurs.”
However, that trust appears to have been one-sided, with Mbeumo opting to prioritise a move to Old Trafford instead of linking back up with Frank.
Transfer Talks Ongoing Between United and Brentford
While Mbeumo’s intentions are now clear, negotiations between Manchester United and Brentford are still underway. United are hoping to find common ground on a fee after two offers have been rejected thus far.
Should talks fall through, only then might Tottenham re-enter the picture – but as things stand, the forward looks set to join United, leaving Spurs and Frank to explore other attacking options. Meanwhile, another former Brentford talent, midfielder Christian Norgaard, is reportedly closing in on a move to Arsenal, further limiting Frank’s options to reunite with his ex-players.
