Adi Viveash and Harry Watling will work alongside Rob Edwards at Middlesbrough.
Rob Edwards referred to his new Middlesbrough coaching team as ‘geniuses’, detailing how he met Adi Viveash and Harry Watling before bringing them to Boro. The long-delayed process of naming Edwards as the new Boro head coach was eventually completed on Tuesday. Sealing deals for his backroom crew was thought to be one of the stumbling blocks in completing the transaction.
Edwards has assembled a strong coaching staff, with 55-year-old Viveash bringing extensive experience from nine years in Chelsea’s youth and seven years as Mark Robins’ assistant at Coventry. Watling, meantime, is only 35 years old but has been coaching for many years, becoming one of the youngest ever to pass his pro license at the age of 33.
Edwards explained what his coaching squad brings: “I believe they have wonderful personalities and outstanding coaching expertise, both at this level and at other levels. They’re extremely knowledgeable; I truly believe they’re geniuses on the grass. I’m just looking forward to working with people of that caliber.
I’ve previously worked with amazing individuals; my friendship with Richie and Trolls, whom I met at Luton, will endure, and we’ll always have those memories. They’ve now gone on to various responsibilities, which has given me time to consider what I’ll need for this job. I think they complement each other and me quite nicely.”
The group has never worked together and has no evident past connections. Their arrivals come at a time when the coaching staff is a hot topic at Boro, as Carrick’s decline appeared to begin when Aaron Danks left for Bayern Munich last summer. Many Boro supporters are particularly thrilled with the presence of an experienced figure like Viveash, with Edwards going on to describe how the unions came about.
He stated, “Adi and I have known one other for a long time and have been in touch almost distantly for a few years. I believe there has been a wonderful mutual respect, and whenever our paths have crossed, we’ve had some pleasant chats and kept in touch via the occasional message.
That’s been nice, and there have been more interactions in recent months, which have resulted in a few meetings and other events. That’s how that one came about. “Harry and I were introduced back in February. We’ve developed a great friendship, and I’m quite pleased to work with them both. I merely told them on Monday night, “Thank you for coming and believing in me.” “They’ll bring a lot. They have a lot of talent and expertise, and they are also very kind individuals, which is crucial to me.”
