St Helens injury latest as promising updates given on Mark Percival and Jack Welsby

Paul Wellens, the manager of St Helens, anticipates being able to welcome Joe Batchelor and Mark Percival back to fitness soon. Since having surgery earlier this month to repair a bone spur problem in his ankle, Percival has been sidelined.

The centre was expected to miss five or six weeks of action, according to the prognosis at the time, which was two and a half weeks ago. It appears like he is on course to return within that timeframe.

Naturally, Percival will not play in the Saints’ match against the Salford Red Devils on Sunday, nor will he be present when they go to Hull FC the following week.

He might, however, be attempting to play the following week when the Saints play the Leeds Rhinos for the fourth time this season across all competitions.

After being sidelined for four weeks earlier this month due to a calf rupture, Batchelor is anticipating a similar comeback timeframe.

Welsby is slated to be Shaun Wane’s number one if he is well enough, and Wellens has indicated that he is pushing to maybe return a little earlier than anticipated.

This might be fantastic news for both the Saints and England. During his pre-game press conference, Wellens provided an injury update, stating that Percy would likely be out for a few weeks. Joe Batchelor is not all that different.

“We’ve had some strong performances, but we’ve also had others that fell short of our expectations, and we’ve struggled with consistency. We have been much more consistent in recent weeks, but we still have the problem of sustaining it for two or three games; we must begin doing that more consistently for a longer amount of time.
