‘Strong’ Coventry City point made as transfer interest questioned

‘Strong’ Coventry City point made as transfer interest questioned.

Coventry City’s latest transfer news has the Sky Blues linked with a summer window move for a midfielder. Coventry City have been advised to prioritise strengthening in other areas following their reported interest in Blackburn Rovers midfielder Lewis Travis.

The Sky Blues are thought to be interested in the two-year-old as they aim to bolster their squad for the forthcoming season. Derby County and Birmingham City have also expressed interest in the former Liverpool youngster.

Travis has one year left on his contract at Ewood Park, leaving Rovers in a tricky position. According to sources, the club has been unable to strike fresh terms with the player, forcing them to decide whether to sell him now or risk losing him for free next summer. Travis has been at Blackburn for over a decade and has made over 230 league appearances for the club.

But expert Lee Hendrie has stated that Coventry are already well-stocked in the middle of the pitch and should shift their focus elsewhere. “I have always felt like that area in Coventry’s squad has been relatively strong,” former Aston Villa midfielder Hendrie told Football League World.

“Unless one of those midfielders are likely to leave the football club, you would have felt they would’ve been looking at wide areas to maybe have that more strength in depth or even in the centre forward area.” Get the newest Coventry City headlines sent directly to your phone.

Hendrie added: “It will only strengthen that midfield.

There are many games in the Championship in addition to cup games, and I am sure that is where they are attempting to strengthen that area.

“Looking at the roster and the depth they have in midfield, Lewis Travis is a very, very talented player, and I am confident he would offer a specific identity to the Coventry side, as he has demonstrated he leads by example. However, you get the impression that with all of their midfielders, they’d be searching elsewhere.

Travis progressed through Liverpool’s junior system before moving to the Ewood Park academy in 2014 and securing professional terms with the club in 2017.

Since then, he has made 263 appearances for Rovers, including 38 in the Championship last season, as the club overcame a management change to mount a respectable play-off push, which fell just short.

His only time away from Rovers was in the second part of the previous season, when he helped Ipswich Town gain promotion to the Premier League.

Travis spends the majority of his time as a deeper-lying midfielder, a position where the Sky Blues excel, with new signings Matt Grimes and Ben Sheaf able to dominate play.

Victor Torp and Josh Eccles are both choices.Coventry City made their first summer acquisition, defender Miguel Ángel Brau, last week. He joined on a free transfer and signed a four-year contract with Frank Lampard’s team.
