Leeds United have reportedly made an official approach to sign Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Italian giants Juventus, as the club intensifies its recruitment ahead of a highly anticipated return to the Premier League.
The Whites, guided by head coach Daniel Farke, are fully aware of the need to strengthen the core of their team if they are to compete and survive in the top flight. With just weeks to go before the new campaign kicks off, the midfield department has emerged as a particular area of focus.
A Proven Premier League Performer
Luiz, a 26-year-old Brazil international, is no stranger to English football fans. He made a name for himself at Aston Villa, where he impressed with his physicality, passing range, and tenacity in midfield over several seasons. His performances earned him a move to Juventus in the summer of 2024, but his time in Turin has been far from smooth.
Despite high expectations, Luiz struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Serie A, and Juventus are now reportedly open to offers for the midfielder. Leeds have sensed an opportunity and, according to fresh reports, have tabled an approach for the player as they look to add top-level experience and leadership to their side.

Response to Missing Out on Diarra
The push for Luiz comes on the heels of Leeds missing out on long-term target Habib Diarra, who opted to join fellow promoted side Sunderland in a club-record £30 million deal. Diarra had been linked with a move to Elland Road for weeks, but Sunderland’s decisive action and financial commitment saw them win the race.
Leeds’ hierarchy is now pivoting quickly to alternative targets, with Luiz representing a potentially more experienced, and arguably more proven, option than the younger Diarra. The club believes Luiz’s previous Premier League experience could be instrumental in stabilizing the midfield under pressure.
What Leeds Could Gain
If a deal is struck, Luiz would likely walk straight into Farke’s first-choice eleven. With his defensive instincts, ability to carry the ball, and eye for goal from distance, he could be the perfect anchor in a midfield that will face some of the league’s most dynamic and dangerous opposition.
Although Juventus are expected to demand a significant transfer fee, Leeds are reportedly willing to invest heavily in players who will make an immediate impact. Talks are expected to continue over the coming days as Leeds push to finalize further additions before the squad returns fully for pre-season.
