Real Madrid respond to £17m Leeds bid for Gonzalo Garcia

Real Madrid respond to £17m Leeds bid for Gonzalo Garcia.

According to a source, Real Madrid has taken a stand on Gonzalo Garcia’s future despite interest from Leeds United and Sunderland, as Los Blancos boss Xabi Alonso’s thoughts on the young striker emerge. Garcia is hardly a familiar name in Madrid right now, but the 21-year-old striker’s excellent performances for Los Blancos at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup are gradually gaining popularity among fans.

The Spaniard has two goals and one assist in three competition matches, helping Los Blancos advance to the Round of 16 as group champions.

However, with Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Endrick in the Madrid roster, Garcia is unlikely to be a regular starter next season. According to Fichajes, teams are vying for Garcia, with Leeds already making a big offer. Leeds, who will play in the Premier League next season after winning promotion from the Championship, are looking for a new striker.

Although Lukas Nmecha has already signed as a free agent for Daniel Farke’s side, Leeds are still hunting for another striker, especially because Patrick Bamford has been prone to injuries and is already 31.

Fichajes claims Leeds are ‘ready to spend €20 million (£17 million, $23.5 million) for Gonzalo Garcia’. The West Yorkshire club’s ‘offer’ is reported to be ‘the most tempting’, with Sunderland, AS Roma, and Real Oviedo also having ‘contacted’ Madrid about Garcia and made ‘huge bids’. Madrid does not want to lose control of Garcia and wants to ensure that he may return if he succeeds elsewhere.

According to the article, Madrid wants Garcia’s contract to include a €30 million (£25.7 million, $35 million) buy-out clause if he leaves this summer.

Sunderland, like Leeds, have been promoted to the Premier League for the 2025/26 season and are’ready to grant a loan with an obligatory buy option if they manage to stay in the English top flight’. That option would cost around €15 million (£13 million, $17.6 million), plus €5 million (£4.3 million, $6 million) in variables.
Both Roma and Oviedo have contacted Madrid, informing Los Blancos that they want Garcia on loan with no buy option.

Fichajes is not the most trustworthy source, so the suggestion that Madrid is eager to sell Garcia this summer should be taken with a grain of salt.

Garcia has progressed through the Madrid development system and is highly regarded by the Spanish club. While the 21-year-old will face challenges playing for Madrid on a weekly basis, Alonso has been impressed with what he has seen of the striker, who has been compared to Los Blancos veteran Raul.

On June 27, Goal quoted Alonso as stating of Garcia: “I had no doubts about Gonzalo.” What he’s doing is not surprising. He has done it several times in Castilla. At least for him.
