Portsmouth FC warned against transfer agreement with Cardiff City star – There are “other options”

The transfer controversy surrounding Alex Robertson’s possible return to Portsmouth is expected to resurface for a second consecutive summer. John Mousinho is once again interested in the Cardiff City midfielder, who was demoted to League One during his first season with the Bluebirds.

During the first part of Pompey’s 2023–24 League One title-winning season, Robertson had a memorable loan stay at Fratton Park from Manchester City. He made 27 appearances before an injury ended his season in January.

Portsmouth made a concerted effort to permanently bring Robertson back to the south coast after winning promotion, but they were ultimately defeated by Cardiff.

Robertson ultimately decided to join the Bluebirds and signed a four-year contract worth an initial £1 million, which could increase to £3 million if all add-on criteria are met. Head coach Mousinho disclosed that Portsmouth pushed it as far as the team could within their financial means, and Cardiff defeated competition from a total of six Championship clubs to sign Robertson.

The 22-year-old Robertson had a fantastic first season in the Welsh capital, recording three goals and three assists in 35 Championship games as a central midfielder. However, his influence on the game started to diminish in the second half of the season, and he was unable to stop Cardiff from being relegated to League One.
