Leeds United are continuing their push to reinforce their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League, and the club has now turned its attention to midfield reinforcements with a focus on physical presence and defensive solidity.
Anton Stach Identified as a Key Midfield Target
Among the leading candidates being monitored by Daniel Farke’s team is German midfielder Anton Stach, who currently plays for Bundesliga side Hoffenheim. The towering 6ft 4in midfielder is known for his robust physical attributes and deep tactical understanding of the game. With a reputation for winning duels, covering large areas of the pitch, and being a dominant force in the air, Stach has caught the attention of Elland Road recruiters.
Sources close to the club suggest that while interest is strong, Leeds anticipate that securing Stach’s signature could be a lengthy and competitive process, with several other top-flight clubs also likely to enter the fray this summer.
A Pattern in Leeds’ Transfer Approach Emerges
Stach’s name adds to a growing list of carefully selected profiles that share similar traits—specifically in terms of physicality and age. Like recent arrivals Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha, the Hoffenheim midfielder is 26 years old, placing him in the ideal age bracket for Leeds’ evolving tactical setup. The Whites are also close to finalising a £5 million move for another 26-year-old, Wolfsburg centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw, which further underlines the club’s transfer strategy.
Daniel Farke appears determined to mold a team that can not only survive but also thrive physically in the Premier League. Set-piece strength at both ends of the pitch is a growing priority, and players like Stach would offer exactly the kind of robustness needed for that vision.

Stach’s Bundesliga Experience Offers Versatility
Stach has carved out an impressive career in Germany’s top tier after humble beginnings with lower-league side Buchholz. His breakthrough came with Greuther Fürth, with whom he achieved promotion to the Bundesliga. He subsequently earned a move to Mainz before joining Hoffenheim in 2023 on a four-year contract.
Across 122 Bundesliga appearances, the twice-capped Germany international has tallied five goals and 16 assists. While primarily deployed as a defensive midfielder, his versatility has seen him operate effectively in multiple roles. These include 60 games as an attacking midfielder, 34 as a central number 8, as well as occasional stints at centre-back and right midfield.
Notably, one of his goals last season came in European competition during a group stage clash against Tottenham Hotspur, showing his ability to step up in high-profile fixtures.
Other Leeds Transfer Updates: Gudmundsson Deal Progressing Slowly
In addition to their pursuit of Stach, Leeds remain interested in Lille left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson. The club sees him as a potential solution for their full-back needs, especially as discussions surrounding Junior Firpo’s future continue. Although there has been some movement behind the scenes, sources indicate that a deal for Gudmundsson is not yet imminent.
As Leeds continue to build under Daniel Farke, it’s clear the club is targeting players who can bring a blend of physical strength, tactical intelligence, and experience to meet the demands of the Premier League.
