OPINION Charlton Athletic and Nathan Jones set sights on Belgian international, he has a clear motive to join.

Charlton Athletic are trying to enhance their team ahead of next season, and a Belgian international custodian has piqued their interest.

Charlton Athletic are looking to add to their ranks as they prepare for the Championship season after a successful 2024/25 League One season under Nathan Jones.

Charlton have already demonstrated ambition this summer by signing Jones to a new deal, discouraging interest from Cardiff City, who wanted to hire the Addicks manager. There is no doubt that, due to the manager’s continued loyalty to the club, he will likely receive some investment in players this summer.

Charlton are looking to strengthen in-between the sticks, and for that position, a Belgian international with EFL experience has been identified – and he would have a compelling motive to join the club.

Charlton Athletic eye up move for Thomas Kaminski from Luton Town

Following Luton Town’s relegation to League One, several of its players are expected to draw interest from Championship clubs in particular. Charlton is one of the clubs seeking a Hatters player, with Nathan Jones apparently interested in Thomas Kaminski, according to Darren Witcoop on X.

Kaminski, 32, was Luton’s main shot-stopper over the last two seasons, including all 38 games in the 2023/24 Premier League season. The custodian has also earned a cap for Belgium, having came on from the bench against Ireland.

Witcoop also claims that fellow Luton talents Tahith Chong and Thelo Aasgaard are drawing Championship interest, which might imply that Charlton is also interested in either of the two.

Thomas Kaminski has one major reason to leave Luton Town this summer

Like much of the Luton Town squad, they underperformed last season, but the bulk, including Kaminski, are still Championship calibre.

To save their careers, many will want to return to the Championship, which is where Charlton Athletic come in. Charlton, as a locally based yet ambitious club, will pique the curiosity of many Luton players, and it is possible that Kaminski may come through the doors at The Valley.

It would not be surprising to see a fire sale at Luton this season, and Charlton should not sit back and watch – they are in ideal position to sign some elite Hatters players.
