Motherwell boss praises training camp despite FC Twente defeat.

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou believes his training camp in the Netherlands could not have come at a better moment, despite losing 3-0 to FC Twente in a preseason friendly. Played in severe 35-degree heat, Askou utilised the game to evaluate his players and was happy with what he observed.
And the Danish boss feels his time in Delden has helped him communicate his beliefs. Askou told club media: “There were some really fantastic moments, particularly in the first half. “It was quite hot today, so it was a physically demanding game against a top opponent, the Dutch squad.
“It was a good test for us, and we demonstrated enough bravery, movement, and dynamic around the ball to create some really good opportunities, and we could have created more if they hadn’t stopped us illegally.” “That’s precisely what we wanted to get out of it:
to see us being courageous and dynamic while attempting to execute the things we’ve implemented. In that regard, I believe the attitude and performance were appropriate.
“There are many aspects that need to be improved and sharpened, but that is quite normal right now.

They worked incredibly hard and were quite disciplined in terms of defensive structure. They aimed high and pressed as frequently as possible. There were some nice moments, a lot of good initiative, positive performances and attitude, and by the last third of the game, we knew we were going to witness a very young team, with academy guys having early experience to men’s football against a quality opponent, which was beneficial to them. “That’s not where our full analysis will be in the last 30 minutes.”

“In many respects, it’s been terrific, and finishing in 35 degrees today, burning the last calories, was fantastic.
“Not only has this week been great, but so have the days preceding up to our arrival.
There are many new things to shape into one direction, and I believe we have gotten off to a great start in terms of attitude and readiness to learn, as well as doing our best to adapt, each and every one of us.
“I really look forward to us seeing more from the players, but when we sign some new players that will, for sure, lift the quality and width of the squad, and challenge the guys already here to improve even more.”
