Millwall boss sets out timeline for Danny McNamara return and gives update on Lukas Jensen

Millwall boss sets out timeline for Danny McNamara return and gives update on Lukas Jensen.

DANNY McNamara could return to football in three to four months, Millwall manager Alex Neil told NewsAtDen.

The 26-year-old full-back sustained a catastrophic knee injury immediately after being substituted against Cardiff City on January 21, and has been sidelined since undergoing surgery on his left leg.

Neil verified that McNamara was back in training as pre-season began last Thursday, June 26. “Danny Mac is back on the grass,” Neil told NewsAtDen. “So he’s performing straight-line stuff.

If you try and rush that process, sometimes there’s a weakness within the knee that’s not fully strengthened or fully healed by that point.

“So he’ll stick to the time frame, which I believe is about three to four months from now. But he’s made good progress. It’s not as if he’s not working. He’s doing all his gym work.

He’s out in the grass doing his straight line stuff so he can get his aerobic capacity up.”It’s just a matter of making sure we follow the procedure, which he checks off. “We don’t want a recurring injury.” The Lions will also be without Lukas Jensen for an extended period of time.

The Danish custodian ruptured his Achilles in training shortly before Millwall’s match against Blackburn Rovers on 18 April and was ruled out for “an indefinite period of time”. When asked if he intends to have Jensen back by the end of the upcoming season, Neil replied, “I’d like to believe so. He had surgery, and it was a complete success. However, this is not something you should rush. If you try to rush that injury, you’ll probably break him back down.”
