FA confirm one-off promotion change in Women’s National League

FA confirm one-off promotion change in Women’s National League.

Watford Women will learn their new schedule in two weeks, ahead of a season in which an extra promotion spot is up for grabs.

The FA has confirmed that the fixtures for the new FA Women’s National League campaign will be released on Tuesday, July 15, with the season beginning on Sunday, August 17 and ending on Sunday, April 26.

The Golden Girls will be looking to improve on their third-place position in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division, and placing one place higher could be enough to clinch promotion back to the Women’s Super League (WSL) for the following season alone.

The FA has announced that an additional team would be promoted from Tier 3 to WSL2 alongside the winners of the Southern Premier Division and Northern Premier Division.

This follows the WSL’s sanctioned expansion and is required to maintain divisions of 12 teams across Tiers 2, 3, and 4 for the 2006/27 season. A play-off between the runners-up from both divisions will determine the extra promotion spot.

In addition to the four division winners, two more clubs will be promoted from Tier 4 to Tier 3.
