‘Absolutely Brilliant’ – QPR New Boy Hailed by Former EFL Player After Transfer

Queens Park Rangers’ summer transfer window has received a major boost following the arrival of Kwame Poku from Peterborough United — a move that has drawn high praise from former EFL player and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, who labelled the signing as “absolutely brilliant.”

The 22-year-old Ghana international becomes one of QPR’s headline acquisitions this summer as the West London side prepares for another testing campaign in the Championship. Poku joins after a standout season in League One with Peterborough, where he notched double figures in both goals and assists, proving himself as one of the most dynamic and creative attackers in the division.

Speaking on the move, Goodman said:

“Kwame Poku is an absolutely brilliant signing for QPR. He’s got flair, pace, and that bit of unpredictability defenders hate. He’s ready for the Championship, and I think this is a signing that could genuinely excite the fans and lift the squad.”

The winger’s ability to operate across the forward line, combined with his eye for goal and clever link-up play, makes him a versatile option for head coach Martí Cifuentes, who is reshaping the squad following a mid-table finish last season. With the departure of some key figures earlier in the summer, including Chris Willock and Lyndon Dykes, there was growing pressure on the club to add firepower and creativity to its ranks — and Poku could be the answer.

Poku’s development at Peterborough was rapid after arriving from Colchester United in 2021. Under Grant McCann and later Darren Ferguson, he flourished in a free-flowing attacking system, becoming a fan favourite for his fearless runs and ability to beat defenders one-on-one. Last season, he played a crucial role in helping Posh reach the League One play-offs, narrowly missing out on promotion.

QPR’s sporting director, Christian Nourry, expressed his delight at securing the young attacker:

> “We’ve had our eye on Kwame for some time. He fits exactly what we’re looking for — young, hungry, technically gifted, and with a lot of growth potential. We believe he can make a big impact in the Championship and develop even further with us.”

The deal is believed to be worth around £1.5 million, with add-ons and a sell-on clause included for Peterborough. For QPR, it represents a strategic investment in a player with not only current value but significant future upside.

With the new season fast approaching, QPR fans will be eager to see Poku in action during pre-season fixtures. His arrival brings fresh optimism to Loftus Road, and with Goodman’s glowing endorsement, expectations will be high.

If Poku can translate his League One form to the Championship stage, the R’s may just have pulled off one of the steals of the summer window.
