Shea Charles opens up on ‘very good’ Sheffield Wednesday loan, Owls fans must wonder what if.

Sheffield Wednesday has had a dreadful summer, and despite a relatively successful year on the pitch, the club has been hammered and bruised.

Barry Bannan is now a free agent, and other Owls players have been practicing separately ahead of the new season, with just over a month until the first Championship games of 2025/26.

Danny Rohl has informed senior members of the squad that he will quit the South Yorkshire club this summer, while Dejphon Chansiri has imposed a three-window transfer restriction after failing to pay players in May and June.

Several players have handed in their notice at Sheffield Wednesday, and the Owls’ chances of avoiding relegation are limited. However, in a new interview, one prominent performer from last season expressed how much he appreciated his time in Season 6.

The 21-year-old has returned to the Saints and appears to be a regular in Will Still’s lineup next season. Nonetheless, the former Manchester City youth has spoken about his time at Sheffield Wednesday.

He stated (via Southampton’s club media): “Going there, the plan was to play games at Championship level with a good coaching staff, a good manager, and good players around me with a lot of experience.” “I felt like it went better than I could have dreamed.

I played every game, and the players around me helped me out every time. I improved and I could feel it at the end. I felt like I was getting more into each game. It was really good.

Shea Charles deserves a chance to shine at Southampton

After being loaned out during the Saints’ elevation to the Premier League, Charles deserves to play for the club in the Championship, especially after the Saints’ record-breaking relegation.

Will Still should benefit greatly from the Northern Ireland international’s versatility, as he can play in both defensive midfield and centre-back.

However, Sheffield Wednesday and their followers will be disappointed that they will not be able to see Charles in a blue-and-white striped shirt again next season. However, more serious concerns must be addressed at Hillsborough right now.
