Newcastle United have submitted a significantly improved offer in their ongoing efforts to sign Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga. According to trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies are pushing hard to bring the Swedish star to St James’ Park this summer.
Eddie Howe Identifies Elanga as Priority Target
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is eager to add more speed and creativity to his attacking line, and Elanga has emerged as his number one target for the right-wing position. The 23-year-old impressed club scouts last season with his direct style, rapid pace and decision-making in the final third.
Elanga was a standout performer for Nottingham Forest under Nuno Espirito Santo, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists as the Reds secured a return to European football for the first time in 30 years via qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Forest Hold Firm Amid Initial Bid
Back in late June, Newcastle made their first formal move, offering £45 million for Elanga. However, reports from David Ornstein confirmed that Forest refused to engage further, stating they had “no intention” of letting go of the Swedish international.
Despite that response, Newcastle have remained undeterred. They are determined to secure Elanga’s services before the Premier League campaign kicks off.

Magpies Launch Fresh £55m Offer
Romano has now revealed that Newcastle have returned with a new and more substantial offer worth £55 million. If accepted, this would make Elanga Newcastle’s joint-second most expensive signing—level with Sandro Tonali and behind only Alexander Isak (£63m).
The improved bid suggests Newcastle are serious about concluding the deal quickly, especially as pre-season preparations get underway.
Forest Eye Belgian Replacement Amid Transfer Pressure
While Forest have not publicly responded to the new bid, reports indicate they may be lining up a replacement for Elanga. A deal with a Belgian winger is said to be progressing, which could signal growing willingness behind the scenes to cash in on their in-demand forward.
As things stand, Newcastle are waiting to hear back, with confidence quietly growing that they may soon land their man.
