Exclusive: Plymouth Argyle eyeing transfer swoop for 11-goal Burton Albion striker.

Football League World can exclusively reveal that Plymouth Argyle are interested in signing Burton Albion striker Rumarn Burrell.
The Pilgrims are preparing to return to League One next season, having just missed out on Championship survival despite a brave fight in the final weeks of the season. Argyle, who are currently managed by Tom Cleverley, have already been busy recruiting this summer, with new players like as Bradley Ibrahim, Owen Oseni, Caleb Watts, and Jamie Paterson arriving at Home Park.
The Brewers, on the other hand, are entering 25/26 with renewed optimism, as Gary Bowyer helped steer the team to third-tier safety last season and will now want to start moving back up the table next year.
Plymouth Argyle plotting swoop for Burton Albion’s Rumarn Burrell
Football League World can exclusively reveal that Plymouth Argyle are interested in signing Burton Albion striker Rumarn Burrell.
The 24-year-old centre-forward joined Albion on a free transfer last summer, following spending a season with Scottish League One club Cove Rangers.
Burrell, a Jamaica international, signed a three-year contract with the Brewers last summer, keeping him at Pirelli Stadium until the summer of 2027.
| Burrell’s stats in all comps over last 3 seasons – per FotMob | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Club | Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Burton | 24/25 | 34 | 11 | 2 |
| Cove Rangers | 23/24 | 42 | 24 | 8 |
| Falkirk | 22/23 | 39 | 12 | 3 |
Burrell, a Grimsby Town academy graduate, joined Championship side Middlesbrough in the summer of 2019, signing a three-year contract.
The majority of his three years on Teesside were spent on loan, with stints at Bradford City and Kilmarnock, or in Boro’s academy system, where he scored 14 goals in 33 games. Burrell eventually left Middlesbrough in 2022 to join then-Scottish League One club Falkirk, however he only stayed for one season before joining Cove Rangers in summer 2023.
Similarly, he would only have one highly productive year with The Toonsers before Burton snatched him up last summer.
Burrell could be an excellent signing for Plymouth Argyle
Cleverley understands he wants to enhance his Plymouthsides’ attacking edge this summer after losing two great forwards in Mustapha Bundu and Ryan Hardie.
Owen Oseni’s signing adds a striker to his squad, although the 22-year-old has no experience in the EFL, having scored for several non-league clubs before going goalless in 10 Scottish Premiership outings for St. Mirren in the second half of last season.
As a result, the signing of Burrell, a centre-forward who scored 11 goals in 34 appearances for Burton in the third division last season, would undoubtedly be a welcome addition to the squad.
At 24, and a full international for Jamaica, he appears to have the ability to play at a higher level in the near future, and he might become a key component of Cleverley’s ambitions at Home Park.
