Sheffield Wednesday in negotiations with Southampton over midfielder move

Sheffield Wednesday are currently in talks with Southampton over the departure of midfielder Sutura Kakay.

The Star revealed earlier this week that the Saints were winning the race for Sutura’s signature after he declined to sign a professional deal at Middlewood Road, and things look to have moved forward as they aim to get the 18-year-old on board for next season.

Wednesday are entitled to compensation if he leaves, which can be agreed upon by the two clubs or taken to court. The former is typically desired by both sides, and it is assumed that those discussions are taking place as we speak.

Sutura Kakay appears to be moving on

Kakay was one of four U18s awarded their first professional contracts at the end of last season, alongside Joe Emery, Ernie Weaver, and Logan Stretch. On Wednesday, it was revealed that all three had signed contracts, but no mention was made of their midfield teammate.

The talented teen is not the only youngster at Middlewood Road who has recently piqued the interest of other clubs, and while losing him would undoubtedly be a blow to their future plans, the money – even if it is not large – could certainly come in handy given the club’s current situation. On Thursday, the English Football League reported a third violation of its rules for failing to pay transfer fees.

Kakay, who would also be eligible to play for Sierra Leone, would be the latest young player to leave the Owls, but they have moved to strengthen their U21 ranks with the additions of Harry Evers from Liverpool, Cole McGhee from Preston North End, and Denny Oliver from Lincoln City.
