Huddersfield Town sent message about Aston Villa signing which will delight Lee Grant
Jamie Tolley, a former midfielder for Shrewsbury Town, thinks Josh Feeney, who recently joined Huddersfield
Town, will “love the challenge” of his loan stint with the Terriers.
Feeney, a centre-back, made 39 games while on loan at the Shrews last season, as the team was demoted from
League One.
The 20-year-old has now joined the Terriers on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, and the defender made a
positive start to his time at Town by netting his side’s only goal in the club’s opening pre-season friendly at Emley
AFC last weekend, which ended in a 3-1 defeat.
Discussing Feeney’s loan spell with Salop and his subsequent move to the Terriers, former Shrews midfielder and
BBC Radio Shropshire summariser Tolley told BBC Radio Leeds: “He was definitely a strong performer in obviously
a disappointing campaign for Shrewsbury, but week in week out he turned up, he was fit, he was raring to go, and he
was only 19.

managers. He handled everything really well, took it all in, and played well at the back.” I believe he has the potential
to be a strong defender for Huddersfield because he only grew better during the season.
“That will prove to be extremely beneficial to him (the relegation from the previous season).” Being through that at
such a young age can only help him grow as a person, and he can undoubtedly move past the disappointment.
However, he now faces a new challenge with Huddersfield, who is still in League One and on a season-long loan, and
he can try to get them back to where their supporters and everyone else think they should be—the Championship and
above. Hopefully, he will be able to go there and have a fantastic season.
“I think the experience that he had last year will set him in good stead for that (his spell at Town). Obviously with him being at Aston Villa, a huge, huge Premier League club, that comes with its level of expectation.
“I think a player coming from a Premier League club to a lower-league club, that brings its own expectation as well
that he’ll put on himself, and obviously Huddersfield are a massive club for League One. They have great support at
their home games, so I think he’ll relish the challenge, and he’ll look forward to putting on the jersey and putting in
good performances.”
“I believe that he will be well-prepared for that (his stint at Town) thanks to his experience from last year.” Naturally,
there are expectations associated with his being a member of Aston Villa, a massive Premier League team.
“I believe that when a player moves from a Premier League team to a lower league team, there are expectations
placed on him, and Huddersfield is a huge League One club.” I believe he will enjoy the challenge and look forward
to donning the jersey and doing well because they have a lot of fans at home games.
