Fan Letters: Could a Hendo homecoming still be on the cards for Sunderland?

Fan Letters: Could a Hendo homecoming still be on the cards for Sunderland?

Ian Hughes of RR wants to know if we’ll still seek a deal for Jordan Henderson this summer — what are your thoughts? Email us:

Ian Hughes.

Ed’s Note [Phil]: Hello, Ian. Thank you for your letter. I can’t lie: I’m still very much ‘on the fence’ about Jordan Henderson returning to the Stadium of Light this summer, and given that we’ve added some youth and vigour to the ranks in the form of Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki in the last week, perhaps Henderson’s chances of returning to Wearside have diminished slightly?

That said, I believe the acquisition of some English top-flight experience would be extremely beneficial to us this summer, so we may continue to pursue it — even if it is not in the form of the former Liverpool captain.

Dear Roker Report,

I hope the Sunderland chairman allows Régis Le Bris the time he needs to construct a competitive team, just like Manchester United did with Alex Ferguson. After all, you can’t win everything overnight.

Ian Frame.

Ed’s Note [Phil]: Hello, Ian. Thank you for getting in contact.

I am sure we all hope that is the case! Régis Le Bris, who wrote his name into Sunderland history last season, surely deserves the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities at Premier League level, and it appears that he is already being backed in the transfer market this summer.

That’s good because we all know next season will be challenging, but I’m also certain that Le Bris will keep us as competitive as possible.

Dear Roker Report,

Some excellent stuff, which I read on a daily basis – keep up the good job! The reason I’m contacting you for the first time is that I’m enjoying the atmosphere at the club.

The transfers (once verified) appear pretty excellent, and Florent Ghisolfi, the new director of football, sounds really impressive, so all positives so far! My only question is, where are the new kits for 2025/2026? It’s July now, the Lads are about to embark on a tour, and hundreds of fans will be flying abroad for vacation.

We all want to proudly wear our new strips away and showcase Sunderland on the world stage!

Haway, Mr Bruce. Get them sorted and released please; myself and my three grandsons are desperate for them for our holidays at the start of August!

Steve Smith

Ed’s Note [Phil]: Hello, Steven. Thank you for your letter and your complimentary comments on the Roker Report’s content.

I completely agree with you on the current energy that surrounds the club. Preparations for the new season appear to be speeding up; new signings are beginning to arrive, and with players returning for pre-season training, things should go even faster! On the issue of new uniforms, I’m writing this response on the same day that the new away shirt was released (to a positive reception, to say the least) at the club shop and online.
