Exclusive: Ethan Galbraith completes Swansea City medical after Sheffield United blow.

Ethan Galbraith is completing a Swansea City physical today (Friday) as he prepares to join the club from Leyton Orient for £1.5 million, according to Football Insider.

The Welsh club won the race to recruit the 24-year-old over Championship rivals Sheffield United, who missed out on promotion to Sunderland in May’s play-off final.

Orient have accepted Swansea’s proposal for Galbraith, and he has been given the go-ahead to go west and complete the deal following two successful seasons at London Road since 2023.

Last month, Football Insider revealed that both Sheffield United and Swansea were vying for Galbraith following his successful season with Orient, and the Swans’ £1.5 million bid won the race.

Galbraith appeared in 51 games in all competitions for the O’s last season, scoring six goals from central midfield as Richie Wellens’ side fell in the League One play-off final to Charlton.

Swansea finally set to complete Galbraith capture

Swansea’s interest in Galbraith has been long-standing, with Football Insider reporting that they had a £1 million deal rejected by Orient prior to Luke Williams’ dismissal in February, but the Swans’ efforts have now prevailed.

Chris Wilder was fired at Bramall Lane after Sheffield United expressed interest in Galbraith, and Alan Sheehan’s Swansea have subsequently increased their own efforts to sign the midfielder.

Football Insider also disclosed on June 19 that Huddersfield’s £1.5 million deal was turned down by Orient, but they have now allowed Galbraith to go from League One to the Championship.

Sheffield United still reeling after Sunderland heartbreak

With 92 points accumulated during a 46-game season and their Wembley setback only coming with one of the last kicks of the game they had dominated, Sheffield United’s actions since have been mystifying.

Wilder’s sacking and the subsequent arrival of Ruben Selles has been lambasted by Blades fans, and they now look likely to miss out on a Northern Irish international who ended in 11th, 29 points behind them.

Gustavo Hamer remains on the radar of Premier League clubs such as Leeds United, who gained promotion at Sheffield United’s expense, and the Blades will soon be unable to replace Hamer with a player of Galbraith’s calibre.
