“Holding club back” – Exclusive: Sky Sports pundit sends Dejphon Chansiri, Sheffield Wednesday plea

Lee Hendrie has claimed that a change in ownership is the best way for Sheffield Wednesday to get out of their current issues behind the scenes.

According to The Telegraph, six players have given their notice after their wages were not paid for the second consecutive month since May.

The EFL has also charged the Owls and imposed a registration embargo as a result of the issue.

Hendrie believes Sheffield Wednesday are only moving backwards under their current owner, Dejphon Chansiri, and that a change is necessary.

He said that terminating players’ contracts would leave the club in disarray, and urged the Owls to find a solution as soon as possible.

“It just seems a real mess at Sheffield Wednesday at the moment,” Hendrie told Football League World exclusively.

“Obviously, players are requesting to leave due to not being paid. To be completely honest, the club appears to be in disarray.

“Obviously, takeover talks need to be resolved sooner rather than later because the season is only weeks away from commencing.

“By the looks of it, players are going to abandon the football club, which will leave them in a complete mess. You’ve been promoted, you’re in the Championship, and you believe they’ll strive to push and improve.

“You do sense that the main thing holding this club back is the guy in charge, which is why I believe it needs to be sorted sooner rather than later since it’s a huge football club that shouldn’t be going backwards.

“And it does feel that way with players requesting to leave the club.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s season will begin on August 10 with a trip to face Leicester City.

Hendrie is right, Sheffield Wednesday’s situation is a real mess

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri

Sheffield Wednesday are having a horrible summer, and there is no clear end in sight.

Supporters will be anxious about the club’s short-term viability, and a takeover is the only long-term answer to get out of this problem.

According to FIFA’s contract rules, players have the right to leave, and it’s difficult to blame anyone who does so at this point, especially when money is involved.

With Rohl also expected to depart, the Owls’ prospects for the upcoming season are bleak, with fans left to sit, wait, and hope that a takeover occurs as soon as possible that a resolution is found.
