Newcastle United have officially signed Rangers prospect Alfie Hutchinson.

Last week, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Magpies had outbid many Premier League clubs to sign the 16-year-old. Hutchison, who can play as a striker or winger, joined Rangers from Hearts in 2024 but quickly drew the attention of Newcastle and other top-flight clubs.
Romano said on X: “Newcastle have completed a deal to recruit Rangers star Alfie Hutchison, with an agreement in place. NUFC overcame numerous Premier League clubs to sign the 16-year-old striker for their academy.”
Alfie Hutchinson’s move to Newcastle United made official
It was unclear when Hutchinson will formally join Newcastle. According to Sky Sports News reporter Anthony Joseph, the teenager’s move was made official last Monday (July 1).
“Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Rangers forward Alfie Hutchison,” Joseph revealed. “It is understood that the 16-year-old has completed a medical with #NUFC and reached an agreement on a long-term contract.
” The Scotland youth international will officially join the club on July 1st. Hutchinson played for the Gers’ under-19s last season, scoring twice in his Glasgow Cup debut against Queen Park’s.
Following the game, Hutchinson stated, “It’s a pretty fantastic [feeling]. It was my tournament debut, so it felt great to get off to a strong start with two goals.
“The first one fell to me inside the six-yard box, and all I had to do was touch, turn, and finish on target.” I can play both in the middle and off the sides, as well as with each other.”
Newcastle United’s double Rangers swoop
Since the takeover in October 2021, youth investment has been prioritised as the club seeks to alleviate Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) strain.
Developing players for Eddie Howe’s first squad is a cost-effective method that Mike Ashley previously neglected. Even if the children do not make the cut, they can be sold for a pure profit on the PSR balance sheet.
