Watford FC in advanced transfer talks to sign Moroccan forward

Watford FC in advanced transfer talks to sign Moroccan forward.

Watford are reportedly close to signing Othmane Maamma from French club Montpellier.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, the Hornets intend to sign the 19-year-old on a four-year contract as Paulo Pezzolano seeks to rebuild the first-team squad at Vicarage Road.

Maamma rose through the ranks of the Ligue 2 club’s academy system and has already played 14 games in the French top flight.

However, the club’s 18th-place finish previous season resulted in a demotion to the second division, allowing Watford to strike.

Watford set to sign Othmane Maamma on four-year deal from Montpellier

Watford are closing in on their latest summer signing, with sources indicating that a deal has been reached with Montpellier for Maamma. The winger is expected to sign a four-year contract, and he is currently undergoing a physical as the penultimate step in the process.

Italian journalist Luca Bendoni has also reported that there is confidence that a deal for Metz attacker Papa Diallo can be reached, with reports last week indicating that a £4.3 million transfer was becoming increasingly likely.

Watford are looking to strengthen their team after finishing 14th in the Championship standings last season, prompting Tom Cleverley’s departure as manager.

Maamma is mostly a right-winger, but he can also play on the left or in the middle, making him a versatile player in the final third.

Meanwhile, Diallo appeared 28 times in Ligue 2 last season, scoring seven goals and assisting four times as Metz finished third in the standings. They were promoted to the top tier after defeating Stade Reims in a promotion/relegation playoff.

Watford FC’s transfer strategy is shifting this summer – Maamma and Diallo would be exciting additions

Watford have already been busy in the summer transfer market, bringing in four new players since Pezzolano’s arrival as manager. Marc Bola, Nathan Baxter, and Hector Kyprianou joined as free agents, while Vivaldo Semedo transferred from Udinese.

Watford has already achieved success by combining local acquisitions and players who have spent the majority of their careers in England with the acquisition of young, high-potential players from around the world; there is no reason why they cannot do so again.

It remains to be known what the fee for Maamma will be at this stage, but Gino Pozzo’s decision to invest the aforementioned figure on Diallo demonstrates that he’s eager to get Watford back into the Premier League as soon as possible.

This represents a significant investment in the team, but it also means that Pezzolano will be expected to deliver a great season at Vicarage Road this year.
