Popular former Reading loanee secures top-flight return after impressive Turkey spell.
In the Royals’ first season back in League One, 2023–2024, the Nigerian winger, affectionately known as ‘Pizza Cup Paul’ for his EFL Trophy exploits, scored six goals in 38 games.
Half of these goals were scored in the Trophy, which at the time was sponsored by Papa John’s Pizza, and were celebrated with his signature backflip.
Now making a permanent move to Poland, Mukariu now joins the side who finished fourth in the top tier.
He said, “I am very happy to be here,” on the membership website. “I thought this would be an intriguing move in my career after speaking with the coach, the president, and other club members. It’s always fantastic to be a part of something like that, and I know the club wants to do something significant.”
Dean Bouzanis, a previous teammate of Mukariu’s, has also made a move by joining the Brisbane Roar again in Australia.
After moving from Sutton United to Reading in 2022, the 34-year-old goaltender made nine appearances, including the team’s first League One match in over 20 years in August 2023.
The former Liverpool youth, who has been loaned out frequently during his three years with the team, only made one appearance last season despite having contracts with both Stevenage and Charlton Athletic.
Bouzanis, an Australian youth international, is back on a one-year contract after last playing in the A-League with Melbourne City in 2020.
