Big update emerges on whether Danny Rohl will be leaving Sheffield Wednesday for Leicester City

According to reports, Danny Rohl, the manager of Sheffield Wednesday, is not in the race to succeed Ruud van

Nistelrooy at Leicester City.

Rohl is no longer in the running to take over at Leicester because the agreement to bring him to the King Power

Stadium would be “too complicated” to complete, according to writer Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports.

when losing just five of his 27 games as manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy left the Foxes last month when they were

relegated from the Premier League, and the team has been searching for a new manager ever since.

Rohl was mentioned as one of the early candidates to follow van Nistelrooy at Leicester, and he is presently

negotiating a deal with Wednesday that would conclude his time at Hillsborough.

The East Midlands team now seems to be looking elsewhere, despite claims that the compensation sum the Foxes

would have had to pay to release Rohl from his Owls contract had been lowered to just £1 million.

Rohl has been linked to numerous teams this summer, including Southampton, Middlesbrough, RB Leipzig,

Wolfsburg, and Werder Bremen, after leading Wednesday to a 12th-place Championship finish the previous season.

However, his expensive release clause has been a barrier for many of his admirers.

The summer has been a nightmare for the Owls, who are currently subject to three separate transfer embargoes and

a three-window transfer fee ban due to the late payment of wages in May and June. It appears that Rohl’s tenure at

Hillsborough may shortly come to an end as negotiations over a severance payout continue.

Although the German may soon be looking for a new position, Rohl will not be taking over at Leicester. He did not

return to Wednesday for the start of pre-season training last month, and he has not accompanied the team for their

camp at St George’s Park this week.

Although Rohl was considered to be among the early favourites to succeed van Nistelrooy at the King Power

Stadium, new contenders have entered the race in recent days. On Saturday, FLW exclusively disclosed that the

Foxes had discussed their options with former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.

Dorsett claims that Rohl and former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche are no longer being considered for

the position, but Wilder is “still very much an option” for Leicester, along with former Wolverhampton Wanderers

and Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neil, who is thought to be one of the leading candidates.

Rohl is said to have informed Wednesday of his desire to leave the club back in April, but it has been a frustrating

summer for the 36-year-old, who has failed to land any of the jobs he has been linked with.

Many clubs have struggled with Rohl’s release clause, and even though the amount needed to lure him away from

Hillsborough was lowered to just £1 million, it appears Leicester has shifted their attention to managers who aren’t

working, like Wilder and O’Neil.

Rohl may eventually feel that he has escaped a bullet by not taking over at the King Power Stadium, but as of right

now, it appears that he will begin the upcoming season without a club, especially since the Foxes could be penalised

with a points deduction the following season.
