Sheffield Wednesday pick temporary Danny Rohl successor for pre-season, but they need a swift conclusion

Sheffield Wednesday pick temporary Danny Rohl successor for pre-season, but they need a swift conclusion.

Sheffield Wednesday are preparing for preseason training, and the man who will take over for Danny Rohl has been announced.

Despite the crisis unfolding in S6, Sheffield Wednesday are preparing for a pre-season training camp.

Sheffield Wednesday’s preparations for the 2025/26 Championship season have been severely affected by off-the-field issues, with Dejphon Chansiri still struggling to pay players and employees.

Chansiri has been the target of derision in the news, as many club employees’ futures are uncertain.

To make matters worse, Danny Rohl has continued to negotiate his departure from the club, putting only one man in command of Sheffield Wednesday’s pre-season training camp at St George’s Park.

As Sheffield Wednesday continue pre-season preparations, Danny Rohl’s temporary successor has been identified as Andy Holdsworth.

Sheffield Wednesday will begin their pre-season camp at St George’s Park today (July 7), where they will continue preparations for the 2025/26 Championship season.

According to The Star, Andy Holdsworth is slated to replace Danny Rohl for the training camp. Holdsworth most recently oversaw Sheffield Wednesday’s U21 side and will now take on first-team management with youth coach Giles Coke and Academy goalkeeping coach Ben Ledger.

The training camp will last six days, with Sheffield Wednesday moving from the interim facilities of the SWFCCP Jubilee Sports Club, where the Owls have been lodged because the Middlewood training ground is not yet complete.

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri looks on

‘Poor’ Sheffield Wednesday preparations could considerably hinder their 2025/26 campaign.

From the outside, Sheffield Wednesday’s current scenario appears disjointed in terms of pre-season plans and whether they will be best equipped for the upcoming season. Henrik Pedersen first trained at Sheffield Wednesday, but his commitment has been passed on to Andy Holdsworth, a young coach. However, the influence that pre-season uncertainty may have on players, whether it is about their future or the club’s, should not be understated.

Everything about the campaign’s build-up has fallen short of expectations, and much of this can be attributed to Chansiri’s failure to resolve the managerial problem.

Joe Crann best summarises the predicament at the club, writing on X: “The managerial situation at Sheffield Wednesday should have been resolved long ago – even if it meant swallowing some pride for the sake of the club.” There is no manager, no first-team coaching staff, and no preparations for the upcoming season.
