Following a 2-1 victory over MK Dons in Spain, where Taylor pleased his manager, the Saints enter their last preseason match against Airdrie before playing in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday.
St Mirren is coming off a convincing 2-1 victory against MK Dons in Spain going into their last preseason match.
Stephen Robinson’s team defeated the EFL League Two team in the first half thanks to goals from Roland Idowu and Alex Iacovitti, capping off a successful warm-weather training camp in Murcia.
At least 22 guys took on the pitch in Pinatar Arena, providing an opportunity to assess a number of players.
However, Alex Gogic was rested for the whole game, and Liam Donnelly and Declan John stayed on the sidelines after the Saints manager acknowledged they had “niggles” and decided not to take any chances.
Peter Urminsky, Marcus Fraser, Luke Kenny, Alex Iaccovitti, Jayden Richardson, Killian Phillips, Mark O’Hara, Scott Tanser, Conor McMenamin, Jonah Ayunga, and Roland Idowu were the players that the Saints selected for their squad.
Urminsky was replaced in goal by Ryan Mullen in the second half, and following the interval, Oisin Smyth, Billy Hutchison, Callum Penman, Fraser Taylor, Evan Mooney, Carrick McEvoy, Thomas Falconer, Mikael Mandron, and James Scott all made appearances.
With a well-executed goal from Idowu, the Saints seized the lead just over a minute later.
After working his way into the box after a tackle from the Dons’ defender, Ayunga sent a pass to the Irishman, who tucked it away.
Ayunga gave the Saints another fantastic chance to increase their advantage, but Connal Trueman, the custodian for the Buckinghamshire team, was fast off his line and did a good job of blocking the attempt at the edge of the area.
