Huddersfield Town: Brodie Spencer concern issued as Terriers target Preston player that’s “hard to get excited about
Brad Potts from Preston North End has been linked to Huddersfield Town this summer, but it might be difficult for
them to finalise a deal for the adaptable midfield player.
Alan Nixon claims that before the upcoming League One season, the Terriers are eager to bring Potts to West
Yorkshire.
The 31-year-old made 29 appearances for the Lilywhites in the Championship before missing the final few months of
the season due to a hamstring injury sustained against Sunderland in March.
Since joining PNE from Barnsley in January 2019, Potts has been a consistent player for the Lancashire team.
Despite his contract expiring next year, it seems Paul Heckingbottom is eager to keep him at Deepdale, as the
Lancashire Post reports they have rejected Huddersfield’s initial approaches.

Huddersfield fan analyst Graeme Rayner stated that it may make sense for Potts to join the team in lieu of Brodie Spencer.
He thinks Potts may make a reliable, if unimpressive, acquisition if he can be persuaded to drop to the third division.
“I’m not sure about this one; it’s difficult to say,” Rayner said to Football League World.
“At the moment, we have two players who would appear to play in his position: Lasse Sorensen, a right-wing-back,
and Brodie Spencer, who is most likely a right-back rather than a right-wing-back.
“Many people feel that Brodie Spencer may be on his way out of the club, he only has a year left on his contract and it
looks like the club haven’t been able to agree a new deal with him.
Jack Whatmough could be Huddersfield’s fifth centre-back signing this summer, and Radinio Balker may be left by
the wayside
Brad Potts would appear to be a wise candidate if Brodie Spencer were to depart.
He has played a lot of football in the Championship and is obviously thought of as a fairly good right-back or right-
wing-back who is athletic, capable of attacking, and yet plays defence.
“Yes, he is 31 years old, and he did miss the latter part of the previous season due to injury concerns. I believe he
hasn’t played since mid-March, but if he is recovered—we prefer to sign wounded players—he would be a nice fit.

“But it’s a pragmatic signing, I would say. He’s not marquee or an exciting signing but certainly a potential body in
an area where we might need bodies.
“And why not if we’re bringing in Championship players who have performed well or have done a good job and we
can persuade them to drop a level?
Perhaps he would like a promotion on his record, as we will be among the teams vying for promotion this year.
“It’s difficult to get excited about it, but it’s safe to assume he would fit in.”
Since Lee Grant was hired as manager, Huddersfield has already added seven players this summer, including Ryan Ledson, Sean Roughan, and Marcus Harness.
Brad Potts signing has potential for Huddersfield if they can pull it off
Although Potts has recently struggled with injuries for PNE, his versatility and championship experience may be
great advantages.
Even if Huddersfield shouldn’t overspend to close this deal and it’s good to have backup plans in place after losing
out on Ethan Galbraith, this could still be a wise choice.
Potts is a good friend of summer signing Ryan Ledson, who might be in his ear about a possible cross of the
Pennines. Additionally, if he can be persuaded to move from the Championship, it will increase the club’s chances of
promotion.
The Terriers are already playing a lot this summer, which will boost their confidence that Grant is the right person to
lead the group.
