Leeds United and Sunderland face potential challenge with rivals ‘willing’ to pay £5m for Sheffield United man.
Everton are apparently willing to pay £5 million plus add-ons to acquire Michael Cooper from Sheffield United.
The 25-year-old joined the Blades in August and was quickly established as the club’s first-choice custodian.
He had a fantastic 2024/25 season, guiding Sheffield United to the play-off final with consistently strong performances between the posts. However, his form has prompted speculation about his future, with Leeds United and Sunderland among the clubs connected.

Everton’s ‘interest’ in Sheffield United’s Michael Cooper
Everton has also expressed interest, and according to reporter Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, the Toffees will not give up on Cooper. Sheffield United, on the other hand, is thought to be looking for far more than Everton is currently offering.
To make matters worse for the Toffees, Cooper is not understood to be eager to get away from Bramall Lane. With Jordan Pickford established between the posts at Everton, it seemed unlikely that Cooper will move to Merseyside as a number one.
Leeds United’s goalkeeper situation
Leeds, on the other hand, appear to be looking for a first-choice custodian. Illan Meslier struggled last season and has been linked with a departure from West Yorkshire. He was replaced by Karl Darlow for the run-in, and the Frenchman’s time at Elland Road appears to be coming to an end.
Sunderland, despite having Anthony Patterson on their books, have been connected with players such as Djordje Petrovic and Sam Johnstone.
Michael Cooper’s maiden Sheffield United campaign
In an interview with The Yorkshire Post in May, Cooper discussed his move from Plymouth to Sheffield United.

He stated, “Moving five hours away from home, I think a lot of people would struggle with that, but for me, it just kind of came very quickly. “The missus and parents both chastise me for being too relaxed and unfocused. It just gets into my football as well. “I just like to just play my football, do my job as a custodian and not make too much of a fuss about it.”
