Nectarios Triantis breaks silence on Sunderland's future amid...

Despite Hibs’ wish to sign the midfield player permanently, Nectarios Triantis maintains that his whole focus is on

making an impression for Sunderland during the preseason.

David Gray’s club is in talks to sign the Triantis to a long-term contract, but they might have to spend more than £1

million to acquire their top summer target.

In the competition to sign the 22-year-old, who was nominated for SWFA Player of the Year the previous season,

Hibs is also reportedly up against Portsmouth and Blackburn of the EFL Championship.

Triantis says he is now getting ready for the upcoming season with the English Premier League newboys, even

though Grey has revealed talks are still continuing on with the Black Cats over a permanent transfer. “I feel good,” he

stated in an interview with The Greek Herald. I’ve had time to recuperate. I’m prepared to rejoin Sunderland.

Triantis has also revealed he has another major decision to make this summer in relation to his international career.

The 22-year-old was born and raised in the Australian city of Sydney, where he launched his career with Western

Sydney Wanderers before moving onto Central Coast Mariners in 2022.

Triantis was called up to the Socceroos senior team for the first time earlier this year and has since earned four caps

for his nation at the U23 level.

The tough-tackling midfielder, however, is also eligible to play for Greece because he was raised in a Greek Orthodox

home. The Triantis claims he is considering his options because both nations are interested in having him swear

allegiance.

“My heart’s not fully decided at the moment,” he stated. “Both nations have shown interest in… I’m fine with both.

Greece and Australia are very precious to me.

“I’ve talked to Greece about it. They are receptive to the idea. I haven’t shut it down or given it my whole attention.

Everything is quite transparent.

“Wherever my heart leads me, I believe it is. I’m letting it settle and dust itself off. It truly comes down to where I feel

most comfortable and at home.

“I understand how young people feel, and representing a nation is always an honour. Therefore, it is always a huge

honour for me to pursue any path at an international level.”
